Hi Ira,

That lighthearted article was written for our nightlife/apres department (which is why we didn’t talk about the skiing). We often cover the great skiing at Hunter, including a feature-length story in 2001. Glad to hear it’s been cold enough for snowmaking back there.

Enjoy the season,

Marc

I think it's time for a new article since it's been 6 years. A lot has happened in 6 years. We'll see. And I guess he has a point about the article since it's in the nightlife section.

I did one of these :-o when I read them boasting about an article published in 2001.

IMHO you can't say you often cover something if the last time was 2001. :o From the way Jessica made it sound they were there collecting info on more than just the night life, but that's all that made it in...

I must say I'm surprised that you got such a prompt response, even if it is pretty lame.

I definitely thought they'd do more than just nightlife, but I still haven't read the article. Then again, they had to rent equipment, so I guess I should've assumed someone writing for SKIING who had to rent equipment was there for some other reason.....

The article is about nothing more than nightlife, you're not really missing much unless you somehow weren't aware of the nightlife in the area. ;)

I guess I wouldn't expect much of an article on the skiing at Hunter from someone who had to rent equipment. It's not like they flew in, they were from NY weren't they?

They were actually from NJ. Some Italian stallion and his blonde girlfriend. Usually I take writers out on the town, but I didn't go with those two (no particular reason, other plans I think). You'd think I'd actually try to get a copy of this article.....I still have to archive it, so I will find it eventually.

I'm surprised they got a whole article about the nightlife. I guess HVI was still around, I think I sent them to Slopes, Spinning Room and HVI. Ah well. I think SKI or SKIING is running my Old Man of the Mountain article at some point if they haven't already. I hardly pay attention to those mags. I like Powder and Backcountry. And the Ski Journal. If you guys haven't seen the Ski Journal yet, pick one up...expensive but really beautifully done.

I notified pigfarmer who is the eastern editor at Skiing of this and the original thread. Perhaps he'll chime in here. Maybe they can do Hunter some justice with a new write-up about the skiing by sending someone that can tail us around at the 12/14 Hunter gathering...

You guys are all overreacting! The article suited its purpose, it seems.

Good to see so much love for Hunter though.

IIRC, I wouldn't even call it an article, more of a listing of a few places to hang out with short blurbs about each one. I don't have the article in front of me though so I could be remembering wrong.

I remember seeing a short piece about the old man in the mountain moving from NH to Hunter. If that's what you're talking about then yes, it's been printed...

Yep, that's what I meant. It's pretty difficult to keep up with all of the mags, so if I did see it, I don't remember. Glad they printed it, though!

I do miss the olden days....

After beers in the lodge... I'd...
Grab a drink at Micheals pub(Now McGregors)
Walk over to the HVI(burned) and pound some cheap beers... Check out the scene..
Head over to the Red Fox(closed) and catch a drink with Mcgee... I actually own her old house...
Walk to Tequillas(closed) and see some live music - maybe grab a veggie burrito...
At Midnight - Head over to Heartbreak Hotel(burned) and wait for the WarZone club to open.. and get crazy for an hour or so... then maybe head back to Tequillas for a nightcap....

Just a thought...are you playing on 12/14?

Unfortunately I am too young to appreciate all of that good stuff. I do remember Tequila's. I also remember the old Yacht Club.....Larkin's (I used to work there!)....Powder....Moguls....all of those quasi-new places.

These days I'm usually at the Spinning Room....but I definitely will miss HVI. It was so trashy and awesome.
