Jay Peak

Not sure what your problem with the web site address is, but Jay Peak did publish a redesigned web page about a month ago. The URL is indeed http://www.jaypeakresort.com/ - If you are having trouble loading the web site, I suggest adding the http://www.... as some browsers don't like the short name alone and also update your browser and ensure you have all your plug ins up to date as the page uses Flash.

I tried again, I get a webpage with a guy in a chair holding a ballon with the Jay logo, and quotes saying currently in negotiations for a record breaking winter...its wierd

Do they have a trail-by-trail report on their new site? I haven't found it. I also find the obsessive use of flash to be pretty annoying. The new trail map has a nice concept with user messages, but it doesn't seem very useful at this point, and it doesn't indicate open/closed terrain. I greatly preferred their old site.

That is their site. I don't get the Bill Stenger thing...but oh well. If someone can enlighten us, that would be great. Their site takes a while to load...it is that techy. Jay has invested tons of $$$ into their site and marketing.

It seemed to me that was a lame answer to a very long flash loading process.

I don't really get it either. It loads pretty quick on my system, but I hat sites that use flash intros. I just want to get to the home page - fast. They should know that.

I can't get to the trail map for some reason.

It's another Flash application. You need another Bill Stenger....

Once you get in there, they have a pretty nice section about on-map glades. They've rated them on a scale of 4 to 1 and given some verbage behind it. They even have recommended glade for beginners. This is a really nice way to get people started.

Sadly, you have to engage the flash app to get to the link for the static map.
I guess they developers believe everyone has a fast PC. big mistake....

Site

...Folks--you'll need Flash 9 or greater to view the site (while some corporations do block Flash use, more than 90% of operating systems carry Flash 9 and up).

The Interactive trail map is currently getting recrunched so that it's more useful. The concept of user-generated posts was interesting but, to be honest, I didn't fully think through the potential misuse/stash-revelation implications. Should have everything worked through in about 7 working days.

Oh and the preloader with Bill is being r/w as well. Just a coupla days on that one.

Gee, thanks! Didn't know you were listening. The power of AZ....8)

Yeah, AZ and the blog on our site. It only took me a week or so to realize how big of a ******* I was/am (through the appreciated help of the collective), in not thinking through this interactive map broadly enough. Anyway, I saw the comp of the new map this am and it's much more useful.

Thanks for the replies, Steve.

Any chance of getting a nonflash version of the site, or at least being allowed to use the site without flash? I have flash at work and home, but the level that flash is used on Jay's new site is simply annoying. Waiting at the beginning and having that video show up (presumably unless you have a cookie stored indicating you have already watched it) is especially annoying. It's a neat video, but it could be behind a link from the home page, rather than something that you are forced into.

Will it have open/closed, grooming, snowmaking status of trails? On that note, do you have a page on your site where you provide that information (apart from an interactive map)?

Sounds good! Thanks. I'm not meaning to be harsh with my criticism. I just thought Jay's site was already quite good, and now it's gone way downhill as far as usability and information.

Possibly, in the future, we'll work toward an HTML site as well. Shouldn't be seeing the video at all now to be honest, I'll touch back with the designers. And yes, it will have open and closed designation on there as well as it listed out separately.

No problem on your thoughts-I'm happy for it. Not sure I'm on the same page with you with respect to last year's site, but still...

Thanks for the replies, Steve.

Glad you'll get the open/closed up there.

I actually hadn't gone to the site in at least a day. Stenger is gone, but now I have to wait while there are keys on the screen. Equally annoying to Stenger from a functional standpoint.

Also, I cleared my browser cookies and flash storage, and I did not need to load the video when I revisited the site. So that is fixed -- thanks very much!! Hope you haven't gone to the designers yet.

Thanks, hope the feedback helps. Thanks for being receptive.

Happy for the feedback.

Whether it's Stenger, keys, or something altogether different, Flash sites take a few seconds to load. We just put something up there to give folks an idea of how long the load time is likely to be. Like I said, interactive map redo in about a week...

Glad you'll get the open/closed up there.
