Listened to dream unlimited earnings conference, parent company of abasin, ceo said abasin will have second best year ever, margins are up, since less skiers, they have less employees, lowering their expenses, best year under a vail pass 590k skiers this year( on track for this ) 370k skier visits, the first quarter without the vail passes, abasin lost money, quarter ending December 2019, dream unlimited Canadian company, have different reporting standards then American companies, this quarter was for December 2020, can not find any numbers unlike December 2019 quarter, everything I stated came from the conference call, after vail announced in January, I was thinking everybody was losing there shirt, is it only vail losing money? Is abasin an outlier?

you consistently misuse there, their, they're. in your last lunatic thread you used 'their' almost exclusively. but today appears to be a 'there' day.

there there, buddy. it will be ok.

Abasin as an "independent" doesn't have a bunch of overhead like Vail. Still their F&B has to be down same with ski school. Although the later probably isn't a huge profit center due to the typical clientele there.

Also I'd love to know what's bringing Vail down. At my local owned Vail hill its been busier than ever. They still ran lessons, and even had the weekly kids programs. F&B was grab and go, but the bar/restaurant did open on 50% capacity basis. So while I'm sure its not a banner year I'd also think that locally they've at least broke even. So that would point to the destination resorts such as Park City, Vail, Breck, Keystone, and Whistler as taking huge baths by not selling lodging, F&B, lessons, etc.

Vail would sell a lot more food if the quality wasn't so God awful. At least at all of their NH areas. Seems like they miscalculated on cost containment by going so low that few people want to eat it.

I'm at Black Mountain of Maine today and the quality of cafeteria food vastly beats mighty Vail resorts

Can’t speak for any other place but, vail, depending on what I read either the lodgings are packed or half empty, but airlines are running specials to Denver for less than 300 bucks round trip.

One thing I got use too, using my car as the lodge, food is better cheaper, don’t have to look for a spot to sit, I usually take a 10 minute power nap after lunch, very relaxing can’t do that in the lodge, seeing some of the tail gate-ing set ups I see, wonder after all this is over, does every one go back to the lodge? Outside of the walk back to the car eating at the car is a big plus, wasnt sure I was going to like it, but brings back memories of lunches as a kid at Brodie.

some of us never went into those gaper pits in the first place.

also, eating midday is weird. big delicious breakfast. pocket snacks. bell to bell. eat like a king when finished.

What are you trying to say?
Don’t know about lodging at the other places mentioned, but from comments on other blogs about lodging at vail itself, from what I read it’s either full up or half full, just passing those comments on,

Most other players are private and don't have to publicly report anything. If anecdotal evidence says anything, most places out here are doing not just fine, but damn well. Lines are long. Granted F&B, lessons, and other services are probably in the tank.

One clue: summer upgrades and expansions. In 2020 there were multiple lift projects that were postponed. If they go forward in 2021, and we see more action, then I think it is safe to say that things are fine.

How was bmom? Nice tour of Maine, bmom and sb in one week.

A bit too crusty to ski the glades and natural yesterday, but the groomers were in fine shape. Skis much bigger than you'd think. Really great place.
I could give the same answer about Mount Abram yesterday. Although I did get into a few glades and bump runs near the top of the mountain that skied okay. Well worth 19.50 and an hour drive. Need to get back when conditions are a little better.

Call me when you’re 50.

you're 50? i've always perceived you as my age for some reason (which is 35).

i will say that 25 me was more into leaving at 3 AM on a Friday, compared to 35 year old me who is more inclined to get a hotel on Friday night. but not if i am skiing magic or stratton. no hotels on Fridays when the drive is only 4 hrs :)

I am a slow developer, seriously.

If conditions are miraculous I’ll certainly go harder. I think I’m addicted to the ritual of the lunch break, with a couple of beers. I’ve had very good post-lunch sessions but I understand it’s not for everyone.

Well, I'm over 50...

But wait... I only ski bell-to-bell without lunch on powder days! :)

A typical days, I don't often make first chair, and may quit at 3pm... plus a 1/2 hr mid-day break! (I don't always buy lunch, I may bring my own, or just order soup... it's the break I need/want, not the food) :(

I hate stopping for more than like 5 min. Legs get heavy. You get cold again.

Pocket snacks and platypus softbottle in the pockets and just keep lapping

I've made a compromise with my oldest and will eat lunch with him for like 20 min if it's just me and him. A plate full of chicken fingers or a cheeseburger do really help him make it to last chair.
