Thinking of a day trip to Catamount NY/ MASS vs Berkshire East.

Did Berkshire East yesterday (nobody there as always midweek - most excellent ) but Catamount is a little closer for my son who drives up from the Binghamton area to meet me for the occasional ski day.

Anybody wanna give a shout out or thumbs up (or down) for Catamount? Saw The Mountain Report filmed last year the other day on cable and it looked pretty cool, lotsa old school vibe just like Berkshire East.

Also, how long does it take and how hard is it to get to from the Mass Pike exit?

Catamount is decent. Kidd of old school like BEast. Not a ton of terrain, but decent pitch on a few trails. I drove by early last week, and it looked to have nice bumps on Glade and Off Stage and some under the chair on Catapault. Haven't been in years, but nice little hill.

was there last year and had fun. i was there the weekend the catskills got 5 feet but catamount "only" got a foot or so. a bit antiquated in terms of facility but good skiing to be had.

I have passes there with my kids. Definitely has an old school vibe. Its small but has a 1k vert. And has some fun trails that follow the contours of the mountain that incorporate natural terrain features which IMHO make the trails a bit more interesting than some other places. Lifts are fixed grip but with the exception of the triple only really get any lines on holiday weekends. The triple, which services green and blue trails and does not goto the summit does get a line but there is a terrain park and halfpipe over there.

They also do a pretty good job blowing snow and grooming. Not as plush as jiminy or other places to the north but not bad. But they do leave some bumps and there are a few trails with a pretty good pitch...esp catapult.

Overall a fun little place, with some interesting terrain and an old school feel (it is an old hill) and it is a good value. (esp seasons passes purchased early).

I skied Catamount for the first time last season and I liked it a lot, I'm always partial to areas with an old school vibe. I've never been to the BEast so I can't compare it but I would recommend Catamount.

BTW, I'm guessing by your username and avatar that you're another picker on this board.
