Loooooooooonnnnnngggggg drive for you.

Don't mountains offer teen passes?

ya but now some mountains just now have student passes for any student including wildcat.
And the jay wouldnt be day trips, we would probably go like 3 or 4 times overnight and ski 2 days, and i would probably use the burke part a lot, i would use the $20 pass for weekends then i could probably convince my parents into missing 3 days of school to go skiing.
Really wish burke had a cheaper teen pass because i would rather drive there then wildcat when i go by myself next year, because wildcat drive is a pain...
but if i got burke isnt cannon 50% i wonder if it is the same thing for jay peak.... man this is to complicated

Not a bad plan.

Well, Burke's teen passes are sold to local high schoolers and they aren't too badly priced if I recall...yes, Youth/Teen Passes are right now $339, which isn't too bad...

OK, here's how the BURKE pass works:

  • * At Jay Peak, holders of Under 6, Junior, Youth, Adult, Senior, and Gold
passes enjoy unrestricted reciprocal skiing/riding privileges Monday through Friday. On weekends, these pass holders are also entitled to the following
discount: $30 for 18+, and $20 for 17 & under. In the event Jay Peak is open earlier and/or later than Burke Mountain, Jay is offering these pass holders the discounted ticket rate when Burke is not open.
    * At Cannon Mountain, all Burke Mountain pass holders receive 50% off day
    lift tickets.
    * At the Dartmouth Ski Way, all Burke Mountain pass holders receive 50% off
    day lift tickets.
    * At the Balsams Wilderness Resort, all Burke Mountain pass holders receive
    50% off day lift tickets.

And HERE'S how the Jay pass works:

  • * Free Midweek/non-holiday skiing at Burke.
    * Reciprocal at ALL Mont St. Sauvier resorts, I believe (in S Quebec, Ontario and not-so great).
    * Discounted holiday/weekend tix at Burke.

When you consider gas, depending on where you're driving, you'd probably be better off looking at something like a Crotched at $269 or maybe a maybe Berkshire East. Granted they are not as big nor do they have as much terrain, but they are cheaper and closer for you. Do you know HOW MUCH it takes to drive up AND back from Burke? My car does well on gas, but a roundtrip racks up about 400 miles...which means about a full tank of gas (at over $2 per gallon). Forget it if you have an SUV. I don't do roundtrips for anything less than three days because of $$$ and energy...long drive.

Cannon is also an option...but we're talking 2 hr 15 ONE WAY  . So, I'd say look at all options and maybe opt for something that will give you more time on the slopes and less in the car (just MHO).

I know that you're hardcore, but maybe if you have one more year in MA, get by and then go to college up north for the big mountains

Better yet, come ski with us on AZ outings for a WHOLE heck of a lot cheaper...Bob R would love to have you join us

my strategy is to ski wildcat for free with my parents buying me the pass, and bring my own food. So my only expense will be gas... not too sure if ill have my own car... probably wont but if i take my moms car it gets good gas mileage, and hopefully she fills it up before i go  (and if i did get my own car it would probably be that anyway) Taking her car wouldnt be a problem because my grandmothers car is avialable for the whole winter cause she is in florida.
Still think i would rather drive to wildcat then ski somewhere close to me(might change my mind after driving there a few times by myself  )
Might go to cannon a lot if i get some extra money

about skiing in Mass, i still havent skiied in mass once in my whole life even after living here my whole life and skiing about 100 times(my dad refuses to ski MA)

I'm sure at least some of the other AZ outing attendies would appreciate him joining us as well... ;) Just because Bob is a big shot outing organizer now doesn't mean he gets to be the only one who can appreciate more attendies showing up!

Is it winter yet?

Free car for the winter? Awesome! I miss those days.

Sorry if I sounded so :-? , it's just I don't want to see you spend a lot of $$$ on a pass to Jay or Burke and then get burnt out half-way through because of the long drive.

IMHO you've got some good choices not as far away...not the best, but not the worst. I've been in Boston for two years and we decided to ski at Pats Peak because of price, location, and the folks who work there. We felt welcome. This was a big leap from 2002-3 when I had a pass at Sugarbush and Burke/Jay, but then again, I was up there. Was Pats the best place? No. Was it the worst place to ski? No. It worked out. It just seemed like you have only one-two years before college, so thought maybe you could stick it out before heading north for school (or out west  ). So, I've been in your situation and just was trying to share my experience. If you've got the time, money, and energy to drive that much, go for it

As for AZ outings, yes, bvibert is right...we'd all like you to join us sometime and anyone else out there for that matter (well, within reason  ). Heck, bvibert put up with me for a day at Loon...we had a good time.

What the heck did I miss. (Big shot) Bvibert I don't want to play with you anymore. We will have outings and my guess is RivercOil,TrailBoss,BVibert are shoe-inns. AllSkiing, Chilemass, Greg, Charlie, Ga2ski and Thaller1, Terry, Ski Jay, Loafer89 are all possibles. What's the story with the rest of ya.

whos thaller1???

oh nvm one of your sunday river friends...

While I haven't been in the same situation I would tend to agree with TB anyway. Those long drives will get tiresome after awhile, there is some decent skiing that is close...

Hey, I never said that I would be happy to have him along, just that some other people might... ;) JK :P I would say that you were the one who put up with me for the day, TB! We did have a good time though! Next time we'll have grab a  afterwards! Hopefully my wife will be skiing instead of waiting in the car getting more and more POed by the second as we took are time with the photo ops on the last run... :D

 Just seeing if you were paying attention. ;) Maybe I'll even be able to convince my wife to come along on one the outings. Might have to find someone who skis at a more leisurely level to ski with her though... :)

Speaking of outings, when are we going to start planning for the first outing of the season? I figure if we pick a date soon no one will have the "I had something else planned" excuse to fall back on.
