When you get your skis tuned or do them yourself does the gummy get left on the shelf or is there more work to do? When a ski is tuned it sounds counter productive to detune doesn’t it? Anyways I have the shop detune the shovel and tail a little and leave the waist alone.

When I tune myself, I never tune the shovel or tail part. Last year I got a season tune at Basin ski in Killington, to be frank, I never paid attention. I just picked up my skis b4 going to the mountain and then dropped them off afterwards, what a nice feeling. :)

I need 2 or 3 degrees of bevel on the tip and tail or I'm feeling railed all day.

No I don't

My skis are also tuned by a shop. Alpine Options in Warren, VT and have been for about 6 or 8 years. I used to tune my own skis, but just lack the time anymore and it is easier dropping them off at the shop after the weekend if needed.

I have found that my fat skis need far less tuning to remain grippy on icy conditions. The stormrider is tuned about once or twice a season, it is such a technical ski that just holds ice like a dream. Makes an icy blackdiamond (the run) at the bush a piece of cake (know you love that term HPD).

Din down for off season: always, take the tension off the spring especially if you are a high din guy.
