Thinking of heading over to Elk in PA over Platekill, NY but I'm not sure since Elk is hosting a race (feb 22,23,24).

Anyone been to either/both recently and care to comment?

I have not been to Elk and Platty since January, but with out natural snow, Elk is got a lot more open now then Platty. Platty probably needs several inches to get the whole place open.

I will be at Elk this weekend for said races. They really shouldn't interfer with your day there. They take place on Slalom trail which is pretty much cut off from the rest of the mountain. There would be a small big time rush on the east side chairs at opening and just after lunch by the racers but wouldn't effect the west side at all and as the race itself is run won't really have too much effect on the east side.

Plattekill is of course a gem when the snow is good.

Platty was skiing great today and it was snowing all afternoon...they should pick up a few inches. Great cover and snow on all of the snowmaking trails and a lot of the natural snow trails are really close to being opened up. We are all bummed we are back hone tonight because of Sandy ...my girls are back in school tomorrow and I have work. Only positive is we'll be back skiing in just 4 days days on Saturday.

Powder day at Platty tomorrow maybe.

Hope people up their have fun tomorrow looking like it could be awesome end of the week for them.:)

See.....I told you it was dumping yesterday afternoon/evening. So bummed I'm back here working today! :(.

They had a great weekend...but the crowds thinned yesterday. They should draw some locals and people from the other Catskills mountains with today's snow.

I know, just letting others know about Platty snow.

I am sorry about work for you and school for your children, across it happens the times it actually snows at the hill.

Why? We got 6" up top at Hunter as well... 4" in my yard down low...

For whatever reason, they dont update the website well in the morning for trail count. My guess is you'll see a number higher than 20 by the end of the day.

Because I know a bunch of people that regularly ski Windham and Hunter but come to Platty when there is a good amount of fresh.

So do I - in fact I've ridden Platt before when they've got more than Hunter - but I doubt they are rushing over for a 6" dusting.... If it was a foot and we only had 6" maybe..

Can't speak for the Windham folks..

Monday was nuts...damn..and I bet it was..a bit slick?

I'm smart enough to not ride on Presi day... :)

But was hanging out with some patrollers that said it was a bit crazed.... Translate - they were busy..

Bright side is... Presidents day is over... :) But we needed it.. Hotels were booked.. My band played to a full house..
Lot's of smiles... Not a bad thing..
