Looking at booking a weekend away with the family. My folks are headed down to Florida for 4 months, so our free babysitters are gone!! We just got back from Smuggs (5 days) but it's too far to head back up there for 2 days (Sat/Sun) We are looking for a mountain with a VERY nice Day Care (19mo old) and a very good ski camp for the 4 yr old who can ski quite well (2 years at Smuggs Ski camp and numerous trip with us) We are coming from Long Island, dont need ski in/ski out on this trip as its just a weekend, would like a place with a pool for the kids and a reasonable drive (4 hr range)...this is what we are thinking, please add suggestions/experiences: (please dont add Mt Snow, we wont/dont ski there)

-Stratton
-Bromley
-Windham
-Ascutney
-Pico (we'll check this out this weekend when we are up there)
-Okemo

as stated above we wont ski at mt snow...mountain creek wont happen, all NH areas are at least 5 hrs plus away from here....

just came back from okemo. very nice mountain. i think it is going to be my family's top choice. although, my kids are around 10 yrs old so i don't know about pool, day care etc...but i did see the sky school and it looked pretty good.

Okemo has a good ski school for the kids. I don't know about the daycare, but I can't imagine that it would be that far-off.

Stratton, I would imagine, would be the next-best bet for the little ones.

Okemo is nice, skiied there quite a bit, we'll check the day care on sunday when we are there and i'm sure the ski camp is good as per the clientle that goes there, they wont stand for anything subpar (as like Stratton)

Stratton is running about $1100 plus food for the weekend at the Lift Line Lodge...

WTF! These places are getting out of control. I wish I had the start up (and land LOL) to create a resort where you didn't have to skip a mortgage payment just to ski, sleep and eat for a weekend.

TreeSkier: That was an uncalled for comment. You dont know the reasons why we wont ski there, so please keep the childish comments to yourself.

I did Jiminy for the weekend with my kids last year. It all went great and its close.

Dont forget about hunter. They have everything you are looking for at a reasonable price. The drive is short from LI and the new hotel is very nice.

Hey Quattro...I would do Okemo if i was in your shoes. Jackson Gore has a good quiet meeting area as opposed to the main base area which could be intimidating for anyone not used to those kind of skiing crowds. Ive kind of made the J-gore area my daily starting point as opposed to the main base area since they've built it there.
As for places to stay..Ive had good past experiences with the Happy Trails (motel or Inn) They have some 1 bdrm efficiencies there(Pull-Out couches in Living room)
nothing fancy & Im not sure how extravigant your looking to make it.
Beyound that there are of course the multiple condo choices okemo offers. Have fun...ws

thanks....grew up skiing Okemo, will be there on Sunday (starting from JGore) so we'll check out things like the day care and ski school as we've never really paid attention to that before we had the ankle biters....Okemo does it right...

I took my sister and my Nephew there a couple of years ago, (His first time out she gets out sporadically) they really liked the Jackson Gore side as the diminished traffic made it less intimidating for the both of them. In fact when we had to make a one day start at the main base area to meet some friends, she ended up driving over to Jackson Gore because of the thinned traffic exposure.
As far as the kids programs, I'm not sure of your kids ages, though I do recall the "snow stars" 9 (4 and 5 year old to start) program being offered at J-Gore, as well as full rental and pro-shops there for your Florida party...enjoy

1) why won't you ski at Mt Snow?

2) If you're going to go to Okemo, might as well go to K. They have a good day care and the 4 year old can do ministars purple which is for the higher end kids, ability wise (although our daughter only made purple when she was 5)

Florida crew?? dont have anyone from Florida with us...you been drinking out of Manhasset Bay again???
