Favorite Resort?

if i factor in reality i'd go with Sugarbush. unrealisticlly (as in i'll probably never get back there) then i go with AlpineMeadows

Interesting to see a number of Tahoe responses a I am there now. Squaw and Alpine Meadows are very very good places. I am quite impressed with the tree runs at Sierra as well.

However, although I ski alot of eastern areas, Sunday River is my sentimental fave. Sugarloaf is the s***, and I love Saddleback and Wildcat but I have to go with SR. We are lucky to have to many ares to choose from.

Kicking Horse...

and Gulmarg - but thats not REALLY a resort... At least one we're used to.. :)

MRG. There is something about it that I (like many people) just love. It would be hard for me to say that it is better than places I've been to out west, but even though I've been there I think fewer than 10 times, I feel a connection to it that I don't to places out west, including Jackson, which I've skied at more times than MRG.

West
Mountain: Brundage
Location: McCall, Idaho
Reasoning: my first true skiing love, since about 1987

East
Mountain: Plattekill
Location: Roxbury, New York
Reason: reminds me of Brundage, circa 1987 (is that where they bought their double lift? ;-))

Killington has been my mainstay for the past 4 or 5 years due to where I live, but overall I have to go back to Maine and Sugarloaf. If you had every Mountain on a perfect day I would take Sugarloaf. It has some of the best terrain, great snow, awesome vibe, perhaps the best planned village in the east, and uncrowded slopes, for the past two seasons it has the claim of "King of Spring". Oh and it currently has the best party of the year. I was hoping when I left Maine 10 years ago that I might be able to say Big Squaw, but that place might as well be nelsaped at this point.

Can't wait to get to Saddleback, as a Mainer I have never been and I guess you could say it's on my bucket list.

I must admit that I have never been to Stowe or Sugarbush, two other area's that seem to get high marks for the most important things. Snow and Terrain.

West - resort/MT. Steamboat hands down. Great resort town, great terrain/snow.

East - Mountian - Sugarbush Resort - Tremblant, yeah it is Disneyesque but it is a cool place to spend a weeknd.

Runner up Mountian in the East for selfish reasons Gunstock, familiarity, kids love it, close to the house, and that old school feel. I know it doesn't hold a candle to alot of places but it is getting the job done for our family.

After skiing whiteface ona powder day and skiing barely tracked slides for two days, I would have to say whiteface is the best resort hands down, skis HUGE.

I like your methodology: pick the right tool for the job. For me "best" depends on the task at hand and the conditions at hand. when I go with my family, I have a very different criteria than when I go with the big boys.

...including $6 p&j sandwiches.

Six. Dollar. Peanut. Butter. And. Jelly. Sandwiches.

you can still get a monster plate of fries and a big pint for $8 total in the Spruce lodge.

I was floored by the $7.95 Baked Potato I saw at Okemo this past weekend. :jawdrop:

west- whistler 8000+ acres, 5200 ft of vert, 400" snow per year, great steeps, trees,
bumps, powder, cliffs and the best nitelife of any ski resort. it also kicks ass
in the summer as well with mogul and park skiing, the best mtn biking park in
world and a wild bar scene (most ski towns are dead in the summer)

east- killington

resort - sugarloaf
area- cannon

Although I've been to probably 20+ in the east, and many give both a run for their money on the right day/conditions.

Oh, man...my husband did a bad job packing the lunch last week...no bread. : - ( We were in the "Pavilion" at the Governor Adams Lodge at Loon. Shoulda gone over to the real lodge to get ripped off. He asked me to buy him a Caesar salad, but I refused to pay $6.99 for lettuce and 3 croutons. I did still get p.o.'d because we paid $15 for two cold sandwiches. FIFTEEN DOLLARS!! No drinks, no fries...nothin'!!

I like "the best tool for the job" concept. LOVED Bretton Woods when the kids were little. Cannon on a powder day; and it was the best place for the kids as teens. Loon is where I learned to ski. It feels comfortable. And now I'm learning to love Sunday River.

Resort? I love Vail. It's got everything that I want when I'm on vacation.
