OK folks...been wanting to ask this one for a couple days but the board has been so busy with other interesting items I held off. :D

You're on your way back from the mountains and your stomach tells you it's time to eat. Does it always rumble in the same place ? Do you have a favorite/convenient spot ? Do you have a spot you just plain wish you hadn't stopped at? Let's hear about your favorite trek home restaurants...and the worst. 2 of each allowed. Purpose is to maybe open our eyes to some good eats we might have missed...and to keep us from passing insta-gas at places we need to miss..lol.

My Faves : Olive Garden, Bangor...although I've been to better Olives...it's there..lol. Runner up : Weather Vane, some exit between Bangor and Portland that's hard to spot..lol. Used to love this place...but they served me waaaay too many clams last time. Simple case of overindulgence. Will return. Ooo ooo...breaking my own rule...but needs to be mentioned (never even ate there on the way home from skiing yet but will) and it's likely on some of your ways home. D'addelelo !??!? Subs, Ate at the one in the mall in Manchester...but there's quite a few locations. Turkey club at that location with real turkey was THE best sandwich I've ever had in my life....Went back 3 days in a row..lol.

To avoid : Chinese Buffet in Bangor....rather large place...near the theatre ? Wasn't very good and locals say food poisoning is a common occurrence.

hess and BK in concord used to be my weakness. just off the highway and right when i would started getting tired after the long day of skiing. i also pulled over and took many naps at the rest area just before the tilton exit on 93 south.

shorties espanaca sauce is the most amazing thing ever. So me and my dad pretty much stop there every time after cannon or sunapee. Going home from wildcat paties is good(its next to red hook)

There's another Mex place in Northampton, but I can't recall the name. They have a huge selection of Anejo Tequillas, which would make it a bad place for me to stop, as I'd never make it home.

When I went to Killington, I was quite fond of a gas station/ convenience store near the mountain that had excellent ham, egg, and cheese sandwiches. We bought one one morning on the last day we were there and payed the guy behind the counter $5 to save up a couple for the ride home. They did it. :D

LOL...That's almost as bad as my d'addello turkey club obsession. :D

If I'm coming home via I91, it's definatly Cracker Barrel in Mass. We don't have anything like that where I live. mmmm mmmm good.

We used to stop at the Londonderry, NH Dunkie's on the way home from Pats Peak, or the Tilton one if we were coming back from Burke or the Whites.

zzzz

For the most part, one or more of us is sound asleep on the way back, after a day on the slopes, so we just shoot back, eat later. If I ate at that point, I'd be asleep at the wheel too. Suprisingly, food is the last thing on my mind. Getting out of my boots and shoes is way more important, for some reason :P

Great thread idea.
This is easy - Maggie's Krooked Kafe in Tannnersville (Hunter) on main street - on the way in. I stumbled into it after a weekend of winter hiking part of the Devil's Path in the Catskills. A weekend eating boiled rice and powerbars and then pulling up a chair at Maggie's - and getting fresh thick homemade blueberry pancakes, thick sliced bacon, browned crunchy hashbrowns, fresh squeezed oj, java. Oh, man! Never had better. It's a must stop for me every time now.

Super Thread....

We are partial to the Tilton Diner (Exit 20 off of 93). Perfect break point on the way back from Burke/Bretton Woods/Loon/Waterville/Tenney, etc. Old style diner food.....

Actually..it's the SUPPER thread   ooooh....that was bad  lol

It's shaping up like I expected now....at the start I was wondering if there was a "skiers only eat mexican food" conspiracy that no one had told me about..lol

On the way home from Stowe or the Bush, Cabot and Cold Hollow are my favorites. How can you beat free cheese and cider. Plus some 40 cent cider donuts and you're cooking with gas.

If I was in the mood for some real food on the way home from Stowe, the Shed was usually the stop.

Back in college, me and my ski bum friends actually got kicked out of the Cabot place. We'd hit it up on the way to and from the mountain. After about a dozen times of stopping in on the way to and then again on the way home from the mountain, we kind of blew our cover as tourists sampling local cheese. It was perfect for the poor college kid I was. Wake up somewhat late with a hang over and fill up on the way to the mountain and then fill up again on the way home. They usually have about twenty varieties of cheese out, which if you sample them all with crackers was a gourmet two course meal for a college student.

To be honest, I still stop in from time to time on the way home from the hill

I also hit up the Shed quite a bit if it was Thursday. Back then it was Burger and a Beer for $6.00 on Thursdays - plus I used to work there, so it generally meant a Burger and 2 Beers for $6.00. Nowadays I'm more of a Matterhorn guy though.

Actually, we do. The posts regarding other types of food are just to try and regain our cover.
