From their website (note: you can purchase a chair from the "Z" lift for $250. Check and make sure you have the pins prior to sitting on it suspended from your deck!)

SUMMER CONSTRUCTION
Hunter West Lift Project 2011
Project Overview:

Removal of existing double chairlifts Y and Z
Installation of detachable quad chairlift
The Snowlite Express quad chairlift was removed from the front side of the mountain in the summer of 2010 to make room for the new six passenger Kaatskill Flyer. The Snowlite Express will be significantly refurbished and installed on Hunter West to replace Y and Z lifts.

The new lift will be placed on the same center line as Y lift, ascending the left side of the Westway trail. The bottom of the lift will be positioned several hundred feet below the existing Y lift base, and the new unloading station will drop skiers and riders off at the top of all summit terrain.

All lift towers, tower crossarms and structural terminal parts are being trucked to a facility in Connecticut for hot-dip galvanizing. The bottom attach/detach mechanism will be upgraded with tire drives replacing the original chain conveyor for quieter, smoother, more energy efficient operation (the top had already been upgraded). The electric main drive and motor will be new from the factory. These upgrades will render the lift more reliable and more modern than when the lift was new.

Some details about the new lift:

Drive Type: Poma Detachable Alpha Drive
Slope Length: 3743' (1141m)
Vertical Rise: 1295' (395m)
Average Grade: 36.85%
Rotation: clockwise
Line Speed: 5m/s
Number of Chairs: 80
Number of Towers: 15
Uphill Capacity: 2,400 p/h
Chair Interval: 6 sec.
Trip Time: 3.81 min.
Old Z lift and Y lift chairs are available for purchase for your back yard, ski house or condo! Chairs are $250 each, to benefit the Hunter Mountain Racing Foundation to support young athletes in Hunter's racing programs. For more information, contact Bruce Transue.

Construction Progress:

April 30: All chairs have been removed from both lifts. Site work at the bottom of the new lift has begun with the removal of some trees. Marking of drive terminal foundations has been done and the area is ready for digging for the footings. All tower heads have been hot-dipped and and back on site for minor modifications. Several towers have been shipped to the galvanizing facility for dipping.

And it is Tax Deductible!

"Donation" does go to a good cause - young snow sports enthusiests. "Race Rat's as the young one's like to be called.

Why I am not sure.

I'm going to miss the old lift...had character.....

That’s an interesting statement. What qualities give a chair lift character? I remember the old A lift at Hunter. Everyone was pretty glad to see it replaced. Did that have character because it dated back to the early 60’s or was it just a piece of machinery to get you to the top? I’m sure some will argue that the single chair at MRG has character. I guess I just don’t see it.

4 min ride has to be a good thing. don't remember, did the z lift go all the way up to the summit?

lots of people like old crappy stuff on this board.. I hate the single chair at MRG... And i hate surface lifts too..

Give me a comfy fast chair any day of the week...

For the most part I'm with dmc

I'm there to ski, not sit on a long ass chair or wait in a long ass line. I'm willing to accept conditions deteriorating faster due to the faster lifts.

*ducks*

Yes to this.

I rode enough old slow lifts in my life. I got plenty of memories. Installing a HSQ on West is great news.

While I am in favor of the new lift. I do like the private time that a slow double affords me with my wife or my kids. Some of the best time I spend is on the lift with them or friends. Fortunately, Hunter still has D, E and F.

Thanks

If your looking for ideas for your zLift chairs, I found this photo over on EpicSki. They did a real nice job cleaning up that chair.

How much are they selling the zLift chairs for may I ask?
