Loveland snowmaking pics

Rad. Maybe Killington will surprise us with a ribbon tomorrow morning like they used to do in the mid 90's? Gonna reach the low to mid 20's so maybe it's possible...

[/sarcasm]

Maybe I missed this posted elsewhere, but Loveland's snowmaking seems to be in full swing. Sounds like they'll be able to open soon. :D

Some snowmaking stoke:

I know it's out west, but I still get pretty damn excited when anywhere in the US is making snow! (yes, I know A-basin is making it too) :D :snow:

Just remember one thing about *most* western snowmaking systems. They're small compared to their Eastern/Midwestern counterparts and most Western Resorts can't pump anywhere near as much water up the hill as Eastern/Midwestern resorts can. As a result, it will take most Western resorts alot longer than an Eastern/Midwestern resort to open on machine made snow. Just doesn't make much economic sense to pay a bunch extra $$ for a large system when you just need it basically to start the season and mother nature typically kicks in early and often so you don't need to make snow in most Western Resorts past say Christmas time.

That being said, snowmaking porn is cool anytime IMHO! :) :snow:

Ah yes, Loveland. Where I lost my east coast skiing virginity. Paid the price, ascending 5,000 vertical feet in 1 hour, learning first hand at 10,000 to 13,000 feet what altitude sickness is and how it can impair your skiing no matter how passionate you are.

But whatever they blow stays.

In the east, we debate the economic sense of blowing snow when you know it's going to rain the next week....

Isn't most of the snowmaking at Loveland, or Abasin, or anywhere out west for that matter mostly used in the high traffic areas or low-lying pockets where natural doesn't accumulate as well? Somehow I doubt people ski trails covered exclusively in man-made.

They only blew on 5 or six strips last year, mostly just to get terrain open before the snow kicked in, they get shut off in early December I thnik.

I don't care if it's WROD, I don't care if it's the beginner route, I don't care that half the state of Colorado will be there-BRING IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Abasin or Loveland
Who's gonna win the chase for first tracks this year?

I'm guessing Loveland, but I could be wrong.

Go get the goods for us when you can!
