MLK Weekend

That's when you cash in your perk for having a season pass.Ski a couple hours till the late arrivals come after 10 and if it gets crowded I get out of there.Only a couple weekends that have lines at Cannon and this is one of them though Sunday seems worse than Sunday.

Ding Ding Ding. This is one of the perks of a pass. Show up and see how it is, if it is too busy take a few runs try to find an uncrowded lift or take off and repeat the next day.

On that note, stay away from Gunstock  We will be fighting the crowds there Sat/Sun/Mon and maybe Tuesday.

i am liking the practices at Blue more and more where season pass holders have a special line for the main lift(s).

I'll be on a bus to Okemo this Saturday... what can I expect?

Yeah, it is sweet. I'll probably be there all three days. Lift lines get stupid long there (non-VIP) but uphill capacity max's out so the trails don't get any more crowded.

I believe CB does the same thing but I could be wrong.

With the timing of this storm and the long weekend, zoo-rama!! No boards on my feet after Friday AM until Monday afternoon, and that I hope will be at Black if they are blessed

Gore isn't terrible if you get there early. It does get pretty crowded though.

Thinking of trying this place if there is enough Snow...

However, my snowboarding nephew will not like riding a T-bar all day. Question: can you even ride a poma on a board?

Beast is another possibility if they get enough to open the glades.

MLK weekend is one of 2 or 3 winter weekends my wife and I don't ski, the other being Presidents weekend and sometimes Christmas. We use these weekends to spend time with non-skiing friends and catch up on at home chores. Our home mountain Mt Snow reports that MLK weekend is usually their busiest weekend of the year. So if we have to be home for a weekend ot two this winter the holiday weekends are the best ones to miss.

Of course taking this weekend off will suck if we get a good snow storm this week. Maybe we'll have to take out the x-country skis here in CT this weekend.

Given that snow is in the forecast and it will target the metro areas, methinks that it will be a very busy weekend at the mountains. Bad for us skiers and riders, good for the bottom line of the resorts.

Note that from_the_NEK didn't say anything about going to Burke which is an admission of guilt because he wants the uncrowded slopes all to himself. ;)

Just go to Burke if you fear the crowds.

I agree with Burke, re: lack of crowds. I just hope that they can get some more snow because right now there is not much open.

we are booked for burke this weekend, but may reschedule...unless they get some good snows

You could reschedule and hit Magic instead. It won't be nearly as crowded as many other resports and it look slike we will get enough love out of this strorm to make for some sweet conditions:beer:

Mount Snow Saturday - Gillette Stadium Sunday - ?? back upto Mount Snow to ski Monday vs. stay home in CT a enjoy a quiet house for a bit since my wife and kids won't be home from Mount Snow until Monday evening :)

Camelback doesn't have the VIP line but the first hour of every weekend day (7:30 - 8:30) is reserved for pass holders. You get your moneys worth before 11 when the crowds do show up. There are actually ways to ski around the crowds if you don't mind using the fixed grip lifts.

Does anyone know how the MLK crowds are at Stowe or Hunter Mountain?

It's going to be crowded in places at Hunter for sure... Big weekend! Stoked for the party!!

BTW, I should mention we're beginners....

Just about every ski area in the Northeast will be crowded this weekend given thats it's a 3 day weekend for many, lots of fresh snow in the past few days (both in the mountains and down in urban areas - since snow in the backyards of folks in urban areas tends to make many think about going skiing). Don't let that deter you, even as beginners, since there will b lots of easy terrain open at every resort, and being a holiday weekend, if you're thinking about taking lessons, resorts will have abundant staff on hand this weekend to handle what is traditionally one of the busiest weekends of the ski season

BTW, I should mention we're beginners....

Hunter will be tough - rental lines will be bad. It's a big beginner weekend. It has a lot of beginner terrain but most beginners rent. If you decide on Hunter - try to rent your equipment before you come.
