My wife and I went up to Mt. Snow today. Mt. Snow blew a ton of snow last week. All open trails were covered edge to edge. For man made snow, the conditions were awesome. Most of the snow was packed powder. There were a few scratchy spots, but even those weren't that "scratchy". We were on the mountain, making turns around 9AM.

We started off Deer Run/Long John to get our legs back. Great coverage on these trails! We made on run on Carinthia. Nitro had a nice park set up. The trail is much wider and straighter than the old "Gulch" and I enjoyed the new layout. There was plenty of room to ski around the features if needed. Lower Titianum had more "Natural" features. I'm interested in seeing those along the entire trail when it opens. Standard/Canyon proved to the be the trail of the day for us. The trail was wide with edge to edge coverage and the snow was great. Plus: no lift lines. The longest we had to wait at any lift was maybe a minute or two.

I had a lot of new gear to test out: Impact 8 boots, new poles, and a new set of twin tips. My every day skis were relatively "new" as well. I only skied those two days last year and that was in the spring crud. It was nice to get them out on some more traditional snow. I started the day on my Nordica Hot Rod Nitrous skis. After lunch, I switched over to my Dynastar Nothing But Trouble twins. The twins ski a lot different! I found them much more manageable at slower speeds vs. the Hot Rods. But I felt the Hot Rods were better at speed and plowing through pretty much anything. I'm looking forward to getting more time on both; we'll be back up there on Black Friday.

How did you like the Nothing but Troubles? I picked up some '07 Trouble Makers this year and had my first runs on them yesterday. I was a little weary of the semi twin tips but damn they are awesome. All they want to do is turn, which is perfect for the east.

Same impression! Very turny skis. I found that I can crank out some pretty good slalom turns on them; especially on steeper sections. I had these skis mounted in more of a "center" type of stance, so that may explain the tendancy to turn in so much. I have to be pretty mindful when cranking out hard GS turns; they sometimes wash a bit. The skis have a ton of pop to them and a good feel of the snow. They're also really light under foot. I can't wait to take them in the park or at least on some jumps.

It was 13F when we rolled into the parkinglot. I'm sure with the wind, it was right around 0F or a touch under. By the time we left, it had warmed up to a balmy 20F. They were making snow all day on trails that weren't open. Smart move since it's going to warm up a bit this week.

Nice shots Jeff! I saw that groomer working on the pipe around 10AMish. They put a lot of snow in that thing! I wouldn't be surprised if that pipe opens up.

Amazing features over on Carinthia! I was really impressed with the jumps and rails they had set up this early in the season.

Nice pictures guys! Like the hat on "wife" (name please in next report!). Hopefully I'll meet up with some of you Mt. Snow faithful one of these days. Next time I'll be over there will be at earliest 12/6, unless I find it necessary to do a day trip during that week.

Glenn, my daughter yesterday (Sunday) actually told me how much WARMER it was compared to Saturday Saturday's wind was TOUGH, especially for the 1st day out. Sunday was just a light breeze by comparison On the flipside, the temps sure did let the all the fan guns pump out some serious amount of product!

Oops! Sorry about that. That's Melissa. She loves that hat too; it fits her style perfectly. We'll be up there as often as we can. We're shooting for most every Sunday up until April. :smile:

I can only imagine! It was windy here in CT and windy in Western Mass (at my in laws) on Saturday. While it was windy yesterday...I'm sure it was more of a "breeze" vs. Saturday.

I was up there yesterday too (unfortunately no pics). My thoughts on the day/conditions were the same as Glenn's and just wanted to add that Chute on the North face was lots of fun. They did not groom it so their were bumps all the way down. There were some moguls that formed, but nothing that I could really get into rythem with. The trail was fun though, and a good place to get away from the wind of the front.

Yeah, I agree. I was up yesterday also and Chute was hands-down the most fun trail of the day for me. Nice bumps, no crowd. The whole place was less crowded than I expected, actually -- I bet the cold had something to do with that.

I have pics from that precise location going back 10 years. However, no guns back then! Great view of the valley down below from that spot. Plus High speed arcs down Ridge..or even better the natural snow and old school terrain of Uncles right next door and the woods between!
