Thanks for the heads up. The Ex bumps were finished up Saturday morning, while the NE bumps were done last night. That would explain why the Ex ones are more skied in. I skied them myself on Sat evening and they were good then, obviously I haven't had a chance to hit the new NE bumps yet (damn day job..). I"m assuming by rough you mean that they still basically resemble giant piles of death cookies? Did you ski them, how does the spacing and size look???

Hopefully it gets cold enough tonight to top coat them if needed...

Thanks for the update. With any luck they will blast the new bumps on NE with snow the next couple of night so they are in better shape for Wed.

Thanks MrMagic. I'm pumped for Wed. And Sunday... and I will try to get out again another day if the wife doesn't kill me.

the top of the trail is in nice condition with fresh man made snow covering up the death cookies, the middle half is very rough, oddly spaced bumps covered with icy-death cookies botom has oddly spaced moguls but the cookie fest is kept to a min. ill be there tomarrow night ill give an up date on this thread.

I found my old set of ski poles at my parents house yesterday and I cut them down to use as bump poles. Looking forward to testing them out on Wed. night

is there a formula for how long (short) bump poles should be?

Not sure... The other night I used my wifes old poles that are about 5.5" inches shorter than my normal poles. They made a huge difference, but felt a little too short. So I cut down my old poles so they were about 1.5" longer than my wife poles that i used the other night. They are probably about .5" to .75' inches longer than I would like, but my plan is to take a 1/4" off here and there until I find the right length.

These guys at Sundown really mean business! This is from their conditions page.

"We can tell you with absolute confidence that reported snow totals are legit. Ski Sundown is about 65 acres. Other areas, larger areas, make snow as well, however, it would be difficult to get this kind of depth over a larger expanse of terrain. We can make 8.34 tons of snow per minute. This season we will make snow for about 700 hours. This will be a seasonal total of 70,560,000 lbs. We normally run 96 snow guns at a time and that ratio is unlikely to be matched anywhere. Not only is it a productive system, it is also fast and efficient. We can go from 0 guns to 96 in 25 minutes. Our snowmaking system is like hunting hamsters with an elephant gun! It's no B.S. and we have the snow to back it up."

Bumps at the top were good, but half way down the line vanishes due to the boarders that killed tha back side of each whale. Still for CT. you could not ask for more.
Lower bumps had a good line, but were too wide. Good for a toboggon run though.

That's way more scientific then my method, which was to basically find the shortest pair of poles that I could. For some reason I happened to have a really short pair of girls poles from the 80's in my garage. As those that have seen them know, they're not the most stylish but they work. I haven't actually measured them, but they are shorter than anyone else's poles I've compared them too. I wouldn't want to use them as everyday poles though. I only bring them out when I ski the bumps skis, which has only been at Sundown thus far.

Gotta love that!

Please, go massage those bumps! They were looking pretty sad tonight. :(

you should give them another shot once they get skied in a little. the bottom line will tighten up, it always does.

All this talk of cutting poles inspired me to do it. I have been putting it off for weeks. I just hacked 4" off of my poles. So I'm down from 46" to 42". I'm only 5'7" so I think this length will work well for me. I did go a little over the top on getting the grips off. I had the poles propped up an inch from where our propane stove vents. The grips were hot so I used a shop towel to protect my hand. The first grip I pulled off was really soft and I mangled the natural contour of the group while pulling it off. It looks ugly but will work just fine.
