I've had one for the past 2 seasons, a solid state camera from Oregon Scientific. The resolution on it is horrible, and it doesnt work great in flat light. Also, the noise of the skis tends to be very loud.
That being said, there were times when I def. had fun with it, and I think it cost me about $85 a few years ago. My understanding is that Oregon has released a newer version of the same thing that has better resolution and better frames per second capability but is still solid state and still sells for around $100 or less. I used mine mostly in the bumps and it was interesting and fun to have someone video some of your run from the bottom of the hill and then also have the helmet cam running, and then watch it from both angles. I don't go into the park a whole lot, and never had a major crash with it other than a few tumbles on the Olympic mogul run in Park City, and it held up well during them.
If your looking to put out your own ski dvd, its prob not the best camera, but if you are looking to post some fun stuff on youtube, it would do the trick.
