Quebec ski resorts?

My girlfriend and I are planning to go on a vacation in February. Air fare is extremely ridiculous so I wanted to try something different. Ski mag gives Mont Tremblant the resort of the year award almost every year. But how are the actual trails and glades? I don't know much about the Quebec mountains. Anyone have any recommendations?

Tremblant, can be really really really cold, it can be really really really icy, and it can be really really really crowded. While the village is very Disney like, it does have pretty much everything you need plus some.

I hate Tremblant.

Usually icy conditions and cold. I always find that the trails merge into each other and always feel like I'm going down the same trail.

As well, I find it busy and fake.

I haven't skied the glades but I think there is only a couple of them.

I wouldn't travel to Tremblant. I would rather go to Quebec City or not go at all.

I went to quebec city and it was great .. we skied saint anne and another mountain which i cant remember . I liked st anne.. its about 40 minutes from the city

Another nice place is Stoneham which is 1/2 hour north of QC. Not the greatest vertical but not a small area either. It's made up of 3 separate areas & has night skiing on 2. They often have better snow than MSA or LM because it's north & away from the river & also has higher base elevation. Some fairly challenging stuff spread out between the 3 areas, nothing crazy but good. We often stay nearby at the Manior Loc Du Luge which is about 1 mile from the mountain, it's a nice place. It's roughly the same drive time from Stoneham to get to MSA & LM as it is from QC, just a wee bit longer. Another nice small area in the same vicinity is Le Rollie which is a cruisers paradise. The mountain is groomed midiculously, reminds me of Balsams Wilderness if you've ever skied there. They also offer night skiing at Le Rollie. I kinda like staying up that way. I live in a city & don't need to stay in one on vacation. Don't get me wrong QC is nice with European archtecture & atmoshere but I just like to visit, not stay there.

Of course it can get cold up there to just like Tremblant, it's Canada after all. A must see while your in the area is the Bassilica at Mount Ste Anne, the marble & stained glass inside is beautiful. Just my $.02

Mont Ste Anne and Le Massif are both great mountains with a good variety of skiing. I have been up there a couple of times during President's week in Feb. in an effort to avoid crowds and jacked up pricing. It was a good strategy for both although more and more people are doing the same and the Canadians are catching on that this is a holiday week.

We had excellent conditions both times we were up there. Le Massif in particular seems to have a sort of Jay Cloud thing happening as they had a lot more snow and base than Ste. Anne and Ste. Anne was pretty good! We stayed at Ste. Anne which is an easy half hour drive to Quebec and another half hour out to Le Massif. I went with my son and nephew but would love to leave the boys behind (reminds me of a Greek joke) and take a girlfriend. Tres romantic with the French ambiance.

Been to Tremblant a couple of times as well. Great cruisers mountain not a lot of glades or bumps and mostly man made snow. The don't get a lot but they keep whatever they get and make because it's so freaking cold up there. We always went in March and temps were typical NE mid-winter. Also good for a romantic getaway because of the village. But Quebec areas have it beat hands down for terrain, snow and temps. Also, Ste. Anne has a gondola and a bubble chair; between the 2 you can ski anything worth skiing while staying warm and dry on the way up.

I think Quebec is a great option for saving $ on airfare and car rental.

That's the thing, I would much rather go west but air fare/rental and lodging out there is insane. I'm sure Quebec resorts are comparable to Vermont and NH and such. I'll definitely look into Mont Sainte Anne. I figured Tremblant was all ritz and not so much a quality mountain judging by the village resort they've built.
