I've seen this on both the Shawnee Peak and Plattekill websites, and it's probably available at other mountains: The option to 'rent' the mountain for a day? How does that work exactly... Do people get turned away at the ticket window if they aren't in your group :-?? It seems sort of weird to me. Has anybody rented a mountain or been at a mountain while it was being rented out? Weird stuff...

I believe the Club resorts, (Bear Creek, Queechy, whatever Sonnenburg is now) offer that. I can't imagine that it happens very often, but who knows.

since P is only open really weekends, i think you can rent it on the non-public skiing days...so like a Tuesday you could get a bunch of friends and head up and have it all to yourself

Attitash did at the end of the season a few years ago. I'd guess it would be just like when a corporation rents out a theme park for an event. You'd go upto the ticket window, and they'd kindly say that they were closed for an event

I think Shawnee Peak only offers that in the spring when they close midweek anyways. Last year they had a couple of corporate events on the rental days. A good moneymaker on days that they are normally closed anyways. I doubt that you could rent it midseason because of all the race programs, etc.

Our regional Medical Center used to rent a mountain for a day in the Ottawa area in the Gatineau for our employees . From what i heard it was a super day evwn for those who didn't ski . Unfortunately it was before my time on the board of directors and of course now the legal beagles worry about "risk"

I'd be surprised if any mountains that are normally open mid-week would consider turning away paying customers so they could rent out the mountain for a one time thing. I have heard of mountains doing this after they close for the season and still have snow left though. I think one mountain even auctioned off the after they closed one season on eBay.
