Both Tuckerman and Huntington Ravines will have HIGH AVALANCHE DANGER today. Natural and human triggered avalanches are likely. Expect unstable slabs on a variety of aspects and slope angles. Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended today.
The two exceptions to this are the Little Headwall and the Lower Snowfields. These areas are mostly still trees, brush, and rocks. They are both at LOW AVALANCHE DANGER.
This forecast is based on the winter storm warning for today with the expected 6 to 12 inches of snow, and the increasing winds.
THE LION'S HEAD WINTER TRAIL IS NOW OPEN, AND THE SUMMER TRAIL IS CLOSED. An avalanche was observed yesterday on the summer trail just below treeline. Other avalanche areas nearby on this trail appeared to have received considerable snow loading.
Coverage on the John Sherburne ski trail is improving but it is still a bit boney with rocks, waterbars, and brush hidden just below the snow.
