Thanks for sharing. It looks like the philosophy at Sundown has remained the same. I'm surprised that there is a 500 ft section on Gunbarrel that comes in at 43 degrees. Reading that makes me want to head up to New Hartford to make some turns.

I remember that now. What is interesting is that past or present, people like to exagerate the pitch on Gunny.

Well its steep for Ct, probably the steepest trail in Ct i would think, Mohawk doesnt have anything like that for that amount of length

FLG has got it right. Gunny is the steepest CT has to offer. It's a great pitch overall, but certainly not over 30 degrees at any point. I would really love to see a new trail cut immediately skier's left of Gunbarrel. Keep it relatively narrow (just enough for snowmaking) and seed top to bottom bumps on it. A run like that would rival any other advanced level run in SNE. Sundown could have no problem labeling something like that a double diamond and could tout it as one of SNE's most challenging runs. You know where I'd be if they had that!

Thanks for the memories! That season was the first of 17 that I worked there, all the folks mentioned in the article were great to work for and with. Rick Carter is a true gentleman, and the current owner Bob Switzgable was working there at the time as well. He really worked his way up the ladder!
