The ALTERRA SUCKS Thread

So we are complaining that Alterra is keeping mountains open longer now?

We all understand you hate them TB, but I can't really follow your logic here that this is somehow bad, notably given they fully admit it is conditions permitting.

Hi Shredmonkey. Where were you able to use for alcohol? Originally Grizzlys at stratton was on the list of placeswhere you can use credit and i called and confirmed it can be used on alcohol. Grizzlys is no longer on the list (mid mtn for stratton and castlerock are) but today i was informed on phone from both stratton and sugarbush and they both informed me no alchohol. As usual getting conflicting opinons. Its not that important but if i can not use for Apres then i would like to use at store and get something and stratton has more options for that. i am not using it on food. tks
yup, used the credits at the Castlerock Pub. Hope to use up the balance next time I am there!

So I renewed my pass the other night...in my case once I use the $100 backcountry credit it will end up coming out to cheaper than last year. Last year I paid the extra $89 for the pass insurance. This year with how much they jacked the price of that up (and how fairly useless it now seems), I decided that wasn't worth it so I pretty much offset the price increase with that savings.

If you took a minute to read and process what I wrote you would get it. I clearly explained the logic. But your mission is to troll so you don't do that. Enough said.

Jesus christ, not everything is trolling, but you are being over the top here. Obviously they are doing so because they think that is a good business decision, this is like saying water is wet and then holding it against the water for being so.

The net result is a ski area being open more, setting aside they hope to make money, that is a good thing full stop.

My point is that she is overpromising here.

She said conditions permitting but you are just completely ignoring that. A ski area attempting to stay open is a good thing man, I just don't get why this would prompt your ire other than just blind hatred of the ownership group.

My personal observations of the conditions, look at the weather report, and common sense are the basis of my opinion.

In other news.....Solitude last night posted that they are staying open another two weeks and then reopening another weekend. Having driven up to Brighton yesterday, I call B.S. If they make it out of this week it will be a miracle.

My colleague who is a Solitude homer said that he thinks that they are going to resort to Link and Moonbeam WRODs to make it that long. He heard from an employee at Brighton that IKON pays Brighton $100 per redemption. That gives Alterra 100 reasons to tell Amber to spin things to keep as much IKON money internal as opposed to going outside the company. In Utah Solitude is the last Alterra-owned resort to remain open--the others are partners. I can't blame them for trying to keep folks at Solitude, but come on, we're not fools. We can see that Solitde does not have much left.....

We were there today and were wondering how the heck they make it to the 19th. It's looking grim. Soli self reported 31 inches of snow. I am calling BS on that. There was 6 inches at the base at most. Last week when it was dumping at Brighton it was raining at the Soli base.

They must have lost a ton of snow in the last 3 days then, because coverage was great on Saturday.

Seemed to me way more could have been open if they had staff or werent trying to cheap-it-out. Down at the base was suffering, but that's to be expected. Higher up conditions were nice, all through Honeycomb Canyon conditions were nice, etc....

I am guessing pass renewals are lower than expected so far. I just got a text saying "Stoke Alert - the lowest price on 26/27 Ikon pass has been extended for a limited time. Prices go up after 4/19. Renew now." Looks like raising the price and reducing the renewal benefit might have backfired for them. I wonder if they will do anything to try to lure ex passholders back with invectives when 27/28 passes go on sale?

There have been so many ads on TV and the internet…..

Not surprising. Most folks probably wait until the end and the site likely can’t handle the traffic.

Yup...I'm usually a procrastinator, but I'm always worried for something like this that I'll forget so I usually do it about a week or so before the deadline...

That said, I'm also sure pass sales are down. Sh*tty winter out west. Somewhat disappointing spring in the east... Renewals are not at the top of everyone's mind and priority list for at least the more casual ski crowd.

Edit...I need to start self-censoring myself to get the damn curse words through apparently. Highly annoying new "feature"...

Wow, Soli closing on the 19th caught me by surprise. Been skiing only Bird for a couple weeks and then Canada before that, but I have $60 in mtn credits. I guess I have to get up there and blow it by tomorrow on some clothes or pizza??
