ok i know we have yankee/red sox threads but to be honest, those have lost appeal with the continued and pathetic decline of the yankees. Its like picking on a little child. Its just downright mean. So in the spirit of fair play, if any baseball fans in here have stuff they want to bring up, here's the place to do it.

couple of things that have struck me this year.

homeruns are way way way down. wonder why.
Chipper Jones will not hit .400 I was surprised to hear he could be only the 14th player in history batting .400 after may 31st though.
Jabba Chamberlin is gonna get his a$$ handed to him as a starter.

NCAA Division III ball and Trinity college going 45-1 on the season and winning the DIII national title. Okay, I might be a bit biased since my cousin is the starting 1st baseman for Trinity

As much as it pains me to applaud a member of the archrival Braves (dyed-in-the-wool Mets fan that I am), I hope that Chipper (Larrrrrrrrrry) Jones does make a run at .400. The guy is an excellent baseball player, and it's fun to boo him when he comes to Shea.

It is still early, but I like the fact that Tampa Bay has become a power to recken with in the AL East.

I hope the Mets ownership doesn't do anything too hasty about jettisoning Willie Randolph as has been the chatter in all the NY sports pages.

It is still early, but I like the fact that Tampa Bay has become a power to recken with in the AL East.

The SATAN fish are a really fun team. I love having them in our division. I'm a Sox fan, but I'd like to see a little more parity within the AL East. A tight division race between 2, 3 or even 4 teams is far more exciting. I get a kick out of some of the boneheads on EEI who wouldn't even be happy with a 15 game lead. Give me a tight multi-team race any day.

The only thing I really miss about Tampon Bay was having Johnny Damon during his caveman phase, and that guy that would wear the big fake beard and wig and would heckle him relentlessly. Remy and Orsillo would be in complete hysterics and sometimes could barely make a call all inning.

Can't find any video of the guy, but, and I know this is supposed to be non-Sox / Yanks related, my favorite thing about Baseball is the tandem of Don Orsillo and Jerry Remy.

One thing is sure about baseball...standings mean little at the end of May.

As a Yankee fan, it's a little tough to watch Hank and to ponder another generation of Steinbrenner.

Mets fans make me laugh the way they blame Willie for the team's performance.

Chipper will break down before he qualifies to finish at .400.

If Joba sucks as a starter he can go back to the bullpen where they need him more anyway.

BTW, I can't get into basketball, I don't like the way the game is played (get rid of the 3 point and bring back the zone) and the inconsistency of officiating.

The horrible truth is I'm secretly rooting for Boston to win because I genuinely like Garnett and the way he plays the game.

Josh Hamilton. What a story!

Joba Chamberlain. Belongs as a starter. An "8th-inning guy" with such talent is a WASTE for a .500 club trying to make the post-season.

I think that Joba Chamberlain's place is actually as a closer. The Yanks aren't ready to take Rivera out of that role. If the Yanks' fortunes don't change by late July, maybe they should think of trading....Mariano (gasp!) to a contender for some prospects.

the guys on pace for an absolutely ridiculous amount of rbi's. funny thing is, that trade helped cincy too. Volquez, i think thats his name, has been lights out pitching wise.

Mariano started out as an "8th inning guy".

Rivera IS the Yankees of the last decade+. And Jeter.

I disagree and think Joba should be groomed as Rivera's replacement.

Let him be a long reliever too for 7th inning duty until he takes over for Rivera who should retire a Yankee.

I am a Mets fan and have been disappointed about their mediocre play for the last year or so. They can't seem to put all three phases of the game together, nor do they play with much intensity. I wish they were as gritty as their Eastern Division rivals, the Phillies, Braves, and Marlins. Hell, even the Nationals play harder.

In the other divisions - Cubs have really played well, and the Reds have some good young players. Arizona has lots of young talent, and the Rockies have lost all of last season's magic.

Interesting dynamics on the Red Sox this year, a little like the Oakland A's of the 1970's. Nice to see the improvement in the Rays, and they are fiesty too. Yankees reliance on young pitching hasn't worked at all, and now they have made their bullpen strength a weakness with the Joba move. Toronto and Baltimore have shown improvement as well.

In the AL Central, it's shocking to see how poorly the pre-season favorites Detroit and Cleveland have played. The White Sox and Ozzie Guillen are always good for a quote. In the West, the Angels should eventually pull away and cruise to the division title.

Lot more season to go, the play is heating up like the weather!

I would like to see Chipper hit the 4. Phillies are playing well though.
