Hey all,

When it comes to a good day on the slopes..excellent snow, terrain and efficient lifts can make a day mad steezy. For some terrain is tops...while for others a nice lodge is good as well. In this thread explain some of the services and infrastructure you would want to offer the best customer experience.

Parking Lot: Free parking..special employee lot..No shuttle..Handicapped spots right up against a ramp on the snow.

Ticket Window: Seperate cash and credit card lines.....Kiosks that accept vouchers...Ticket window opens 30 minutes before the slopes open..

Ticket Scanning..everybody gets scanned every liftride..every lift...vertical foot club..prizes awarded based on vert. At 50,000..$5 gift certificate to the cafeteria..100,000..$10 gift certificate to the cafeteria..250,000...choice of t-shirt or hat..500,000....hoodie...one million..awarded a one year membership to the miliion + club...15% off next seasons season pass. Season passholders party..season passholders race..one day a year the mountain opens an hour earlier for season passholders.

Lodge...sort of like a mini-mall..a convenience store, a Subway..ATM machine..ski shop/tuning shop...rental shop..bar...restaurant..

Outside..grandstand for concerts, big air events and rail jams..

Tubing

Free pins and bumper stickers..

Little cabins on the mountain with Gas grills and stoves so you can cook your lunch and drink/smoke.

Yo gimme some of your tots??

ski on / off access from the parking lot

weekend first tracks for season passholders (30 mins before opening)

10% loyalty discount for returning season passholders

10% Make the switch discount for those buying a season pass but had a season pass at a competitors mountain the season prior..

(dreaming on this one) no beginners on high speed lifts accesing intermediate/expert terrain rule

I will also say that my ideal ski resort would put the skiing experience first. Not a fake village, not real estate, not $$$ amenities, or a cutting edge food court, but skiing. My ideal resort would probably owned by a person or family of skiers that care about the future of the area beyond the next 10 years.

Sounds like Mad River Glen.

Sounds like Mad River Glen.

Your right, except my ideal resort would not have enough people to form a line longer than five minutes. Mad River is certainly the right idea I think. I'm growing so tired of the vacation destination experience.

Saddleback and Burke and Magic also come to mind but probably wouldn't if they could help it.

Sounds like Blue.

what exactly sounds like blue because they don't have anything I mentioned for sure...

they have a discount for buying a season pass early, but anyone can purchase it for that cost and just about every mountain offers that

I thought about this topic and drew a blank. I realize that access, conditions and efficiency are my only requirements, everything else is bells and whistles. Is apres ski and amenities important? Sure, but it's not at the top of my list. I get greater satisfaction being in the beautiful natural surroundings, enjoying the mountain, and a few cold beers. If the resort has more to offer, that's good, too. I can go out for a good beer and steak anytime, anywhere.

In practice...
I like Jackson Hole.. Just enough Village - funky feeling - real estate in places i really don't car about.. Mangy moose.. Classic...

I don't like Snowbird.. it just seems disjointed.. tough to find beer - not so funky...

this to depends..

Day trip... Whatever.. I'll eat on the way home.. No problem..

Week trip staying at the resort... Gotta have steak and beer... And within walking distance.. Cause - I like to tip a few beers back.. And come and go as I please...

I also like to stay close to the mountain if possible... Or in the town if i can hop shuttles. - like Jackson..
