The Okemo mountain thread

saw that on reddit the other day. couldn't find this thread. didn't care enough to find it to post.

the family staying there posted on r/vermont. they were airbnb guests. sounds like it was electrical and not their fault.

Nice to hear it's not the usual ashes in the paper bag on the deck story.

Lifts were ski on all day today, place was empty. With a friend so mostly stuck to blue groomers. Upper Sapphire -> 103 -> Arrow was great, everything else pretty icy. First day for Solitude lift (Heavens Gate / Screamin Demon). Upper Timberline left ungroomed but was pretty chopped up and was a bit of a chore getting down. Black runs visible from the 6-pack were starting to look pretty thin with many exposed rocks.

Fun day today. Nats mostly open but a lot of very thin **** and rocks being hit. Outrage in particular was bad on South Face. Woods to the right of Double Diamond were fun. Off the Rim and Punch Line were nice ungroomed choices. Wild Thing to Forrest Bump was a nice duo.

Shortly after noon and insane squall hit and dumped a couple quick inches while I was over at Jackson Gore. Supernova was garbage. Big Bang had a lot of fun pow to the right of the large whales that haven't been groomed out yet. But the couple runs right down Quantum during the squall were heavenly...every time I saw a pillow I did a quick stop and the wind blew the snow right over me. Lots of hooting from the chair and from myself. Felt like I was at Jay instead of Okemo for a few minutes.

Good enough day, need some more snow for the nats to actually be fun. But kudos to Okemo for opening them thin and letting the skiers decide whether or not the coverage is good enough.

Whiteout on Quantum!

Hit up their closing day today. Coverage on what was probably 10 or so distinct routes off of Sunburst 6 was quite good, and if the folks out in CO let them, they easily had atleast another week in most of them...

Did the 8 to almost 1 shift, nice consistent Spring snow top to bottom the 1st couple of hours, started getting soft and heavy on roughly the lower 1/3 after that. Clouds/fog rolling up + down the upper say 1/2 of the mountain at times made visibility a little tough (at one point near the summit terminal I could hardly see the bubble infront of the one I was on!)

Racked up a little over 30k of verts via 18 laps on the bubble. Fun session on the hill

Stopped by for the last couple hours of the day in my way to Stowe. Fog hung over the top half and there was a cold breeze walking up, but everything was 100% cream cheese. Most of my runs were taking a cruiser off the top down to the bumps on either Sels or Ledges. Sels had a lot of customers because it was the only way to access the park. Bit more scraped down but also better bump patterns I thought. I was the only one on Ledges every time I hit it and it was softer but the lines weren't quite as good.

Fun quick 2 hour 15k session. Glad to get my legs back under me. Lame that they still close the Six at 3:45 in April. Vail sucks. Just arrived in Stowe a couple minutes ago and it's a nice sunny spring afternoon up here and 10 degrees warmer. Was fun to ski some buttery groomers and bumps but I'm pumped to get into the woods the next couple days.

Got 2 of my buddies from Mount Snow taking a few laps with Stowe's GM, a former Mount Snow guy, and all around GREAT guy tomorrow! Another of my Mount Snow crew was at Stowe today and said it was AWESOME! Enjoy!

Okemo has a surprising amount of trails open on natural right now. Might have to check it out Tuesday. I'm sure they will be beat to **** by then but nice that they're letting people actually get off the groomers for a bit!

Can confirm lots of natural slopes. Most of Jackson Gore is natural.

They were getting action yesterda y when we were there. My buddy took a good core shots though

Skied there Thursday. Nice new snow, but stay light as rocks (big ones) are just underneath. Granted we got early untracked on some trails, but as the trails get skied in the danger areas will be uncovered so you can stay away from select rocks. Conditions in general are just unreal, especially for this time of year. The snow that fell was a solid, dense 8 inches which has skied in nicely with the cold temps. Stay away from the middle, but most sides were fantastic!

I'm proud as **** of Okemo for opening some nats on thin cover. It's not as beat to **** as I was expecting and is extremely soft and fun. Kudos Okemo!

My next run down there were some AOS (average Okemo skiers) side stepping down the above zone. LMAO

Most of it is so so good though.

Was there last Friday and we skied the F out of the jackson gore slopes on natural. Upper Mountain was on wind hold, so the only other natural we got was off that triple next to where the park usually is.

Snow skied really well. There were pockets of untracked along the sides last week that I'm sure are gone now.

Yeah no untracked powder left but I'm not sad. Everything is skied in super nice and all hazards are visible. The trail under Evergreen was garbage but all the other nats are incredible. Upper Chief, under Solitude, the stuff at Jackson Gore all amazingly soft. Weather is beautiful and sunny and not a lick of wind.

I know everyone loves to here on Okemo and sure there's nothing butt puckering here but I always have a ton of fun whenever I'm here. Total 180 from Mt Snow last week.
