I was hiking back to the shelters once in mid-May from the bowl.. The Lower Headwall was REALLY undermined so we hiked the whole way.
As we were going a guy asked about skiing it - we told him it wasn't a good idea..
Walking down the path we could see the guy start his attempt and immediately lost a ski into a crack in snow over the rushing creek. He went to get it... Fell into the ******* creeck and disappeared into it. We were freaking out until we heard him pop up like 20 feet downstream through another crack... He climbed out - reached in to grab his ski and fell in AGAIN!!! And once more popped up like a 10 feet down the rushing creek under the snow. At that point I stopped caring.. And just shook my head...

stupid...

A couple years ago a guy fell into the waterfall by the lip and wasn’t found for a month and a half

Like they say - extrication from crevasses is unlikely.
I ALWAYS avoid the headwall when it's crevassed.. So many other lines that are safe.

That is a good book. I think it has been since updated.

Well it looks like he was at least prepared with the proper provisions, a Cotten sweatshirt, a cotton beanie and cheap gloves purchased at a convenient store.
