was planning on leaving this afternoon with a buddy and skiing mrg tomorrow.....conditions all over NE look pretty nasty (hardpack/ice: ungroomed not open etc) wondering if we should wait and go another weekend....6hr drive from LI...want it to be worthwhile...

It's going to be completely bullet proof. I wouldn't even ski it if I lived in Warren and had a season pass.

From their snow report:

"The temps tumbled overnight and surface conditions are "bullet-proof" with a little dust on top for aesthetics. "

+ 1. We skied at SB yesterday AM and enjoyed some nice buttery spring conditions. In BTV it was warm right up until last evening. My guess is that the front came through overnight...because this AM we have a frozen lunar landscape. As you probably already know, it is not a good day to be out there.

This was a hard, quick freeze, which is the worst kind.

 That has to be the funniest snow report I've read! Scary, too... truth in advertising is rare in snow reports, so if that's what it says, I wouldn't make the drive.

Eric comes up with some good stuff.

SB's report is also interesting..."stay in bed."

They delayed lift openings this morning at SB to allow the groomers to try and smooth things out. They said in the report that the front came through at midnight...when the temps dropped. Worst thing you can do is groom before the temp drops. That is nasty to ski. But sometimes the front comes through too late and they have little choice.

yeah baby, i'm gonna rock these piles today.

wtf.

If it was groomed, loose and frozen granular over hardpack is what was covering Mount Snow today. If it wasn't groomed, it was rope up and for the most part waiting for a few passes from the teams of cats that are roving the hill today. Biggest problem was that the front didn't pass and get the snow set up so the cats could start working until somewhere around 4AM so there wasn't a ton of time to get things groomed out for 1st chair. Ropes have been dropping here all day, but first thing it kind of reminded me of say Thanksgiving Weekend when you have alot of folks on limited, solid terrain.

Going to take a couple of days of passes with the cats to really get things back to a decent loose granular/machine groomed surface, especially with forcasted cold temps and limited natural.

Looks like it froze down there as well. I thought I saw someone crowing about how good the conditions were going to be down there. Looks like that was wrong. The good news is that the sun is getting stronger and the temps are going to [eventually] rebound. That combined with some grooming will fix things.

crowing?

there were a few of us planning on going today but we all knew it was going to be borderline based on the temps bro.

was kinda thinking that....did they seed farther down? when things do soften up, i think it might be gooooood.

according to greg who was there yesterday, its about 1/2 of the trail now. the top 1/3rd is skied in and great, the next section is ok and the newest/lowest seeded part is rough.

if you keep your stuff down here in ct, you should really check it out sometime. One of us is there just about any day of the week. give a shout if you go.

definitely, when its soft and running good ill laps those things all night. weekends are spent up north, but bump and bust is on the calender. going to have to take it easy at the us open on saturday up there, haha. start early, go to bed early?.....we'll see how it works out.

I wouldn't drive 6 hours for the conditions up there..at Blue today anything ungroomed was solid and you can see your reflection..the groomers were just barely edgeable..VT is going to be the same based on yesterdays warm termperatures and rain followed by a hard freeze..
