Which one's recommended

hello all you experienced skiiers,

just wanted to see what you recommend. me and few of my friends plan to head to Okemo,VT this weekend . Haven't been to VT before for skiing. Which mountain trails are better for both beginners and experienced skiiers alike. i've seen a couple a post of a member who uploaded pics from his Stratton and Burke trip. Could you guys recommend a place.

There is really no advanced skiing whatsoever at Okemo. Runs that I would recommend because they ski more difficult than the rest of the trails there are:

Jackson Gore area: there are a few nice trails here like Quantum Leap, Big Bang, and Limelight.

Main Area: The Plunge (near the Solitutude Quad), Defiance (Off the Summit GSQ), Sel's Choice (usually bumped),

There are some nice runs off the South Face Quad as well like Stumpjumper and Punchline.

You will find that even these blacks ski like blues at most areas, but some can be fun!

As Newpylong said, there's nothing at Okemo that a true advanced skier is going to find very challenging. Stratton is much the same way.

Not sure how far apart Stratton and Okemo are; probably somewhere around about an hour's drive. Stratton is further south in Vermont then Okemo. Neither one is anywhere close to Burke.

Thanx for the quick reply Newpylong. After reading thru' all the posts on this forum ( I must say a truely informative forum ) I am planning to hit SugarBash's Mt.Ellen. I wanna club my trip with snowmobiling thru' White Mountain National Forest.

Any input on Snowmobiling on the mountain is greatly appreciated ( btw, where do you guys rent snowmobiles usually ? )

Good choice on the Sugarbush Mt. Ellen decision. You'll have a great time. We could get up to 2 feet of snow tomorrow night and Saturday! POWDER DAY!

head up to Bromley...good beginner terrain and some more 'expert' (more so than Okemo) Trees/bumps...they leave alot natural unlike Okemo which pretty much grooms everything....Bromley is very laid back, Johnny Seesaws is a great place to stay, includes a great bfast

Bromley is $25 mid-week which is an excellent value and has a a HSQ and FGQ to do laps on. If the Noreaster delivers deep snow, skip Bromley and go to Magic ($25 mid-week and $50 a car load on Fri) for more challenging terrain than Bromley.

Sugarbush is a good choice you may want to start at Lincoln Peak so you can hit Castle Rock before the line gets too long and then migrate to Mount Ellen via the Slide Brook Express. Burke is another good choice but a bit further to drive north and the reward is frequently soft powdery snow and uncut powder if you look around.

Okemo to Stratton is ~40 minutes via Rt 100.

thinking of snowmobiling in the White Mountain Forest Range in NH too .... anyone has been there ??

NB: The original poster's question was something like "which trails are better for beginners and experienced skiers alike." Castle Rock is good for experienced but would not be right for beginners. Mt. Ellen is a great choice for both though, with plenty of terrain and choices to keep all levels of skiers happy for a good long time.

So you're going snowmobiling in the Whites? I haven't actually gone snowmobiling there but it should be pretty good. The Comfort Inn in St Johnsbury would have been the perfect place to stage a day of skiing at Burke and a day in the White Mtns. on Snowmobiles.

Sugarbush should be GREAT this weekend along with everywhere else
