Ok so the weather is driving us all crazy. Coming off the high of such a great season last year makes it even worse. So while waiting for Old Man Winter to make an appearence I have a simple question about peoples preferences. Where would you rather go, a small mountain with 100% (or close to 100%) open with good snowmaking or a larger mountain with approximately 50% open?

I went to a small with about 10% open this morning. It was good enough for now. Come January I'll expect and want more ...

both have their advantages and disadvantages.
the smaller mtn I believe would be less crowded under the circumstances you laid down on most days taking out other circumstances.

Agreed. Bigger Mountain + More People - Terrain = skied off quickly. But, if it is closer, that might sway me.

I choose mountains like I choose hotels. Which one has the bar? I like the quality not the quantity. The same is true for skiing.

I'd easily ski Ragged at 100% compared to Cannon at 50. Ragged is also a twenty minute drive compared to 50 minutes to Cannon.

Home base day tripping areas, all else snow conditions wise being equal. Let me think... Camelback's web cam's looking like closer to 100% by Friday. Elk's website is looking closer to 50%. ...Elk.

One decent bump run and I'm good. Mogul skiers are easy to please....wish more mountains knew that.

I love Elk. Hidden gem.
